Roy’s Sunday Letter for November 8, 2026
My intent was to write about grandparents and grandchildren this Sunday. The national, state, and local elections, those who made us Dream, Hope, and Act have defined the week for me, for all of us. Grandparents and grandchildren next Sunday.
Dreamers, Heroes, and Those Who Acted on their Dreams
When I graduated, 1968, I was committed and motivated by the principles of justice, equal treatment, and fair policies for all. This election week was about the Dreamers, those who Believed, those who took the Risks, Showed Up. The past years have had a beating down effect, deadened my sense of hope, of believing in causes, of being passive to change. I stopped dreaming, seeing, acting beyond my rational understanding.
The Dreamers won elections at every level of national, state, local office and service opportunity. We had yard signs for James Talarico for the Senate, Tina Hinojosa for Texas governor and Alisa Simmons for County Judge. Yes, we did have a rising hope for Talerico but no way O’Hare would lose to Simmons but he did. I was a Supporter, not a Dreamer.
Willie Nelson wrote the heartful words “There is room for all of us” in his song Living in the Promised Land. Woodie Guthrie and Pete Seeger led us to Believe the Reality of This Land Is Your Land. Bob Dylan sang in the 60’s and sings today The Times They Are a Changing. This past week showed us the power of Dylan’s soulful words in his meeting with an admirer, the Pope.
This week has taught me, I had backed off, settled for What Was. The Dreamers, the Believers have once again pulled me forward to the values and energy of What Is. I respect each of the new faces, voices, interviews and initial What do we do now? This election is a call out for all of us to Awaken, to act on our Dreams of what is Possible. The election is a call for Compassion and Inclusion of all persons and cultures in the Transformation of the American Dream.
Roy, awakened and dreaming
