Roy’s Sunday Letter for September 7, 2025

SEPTEMBER IS MORE THAN A TURN OF THE CALENDAR

The earlier wintering months gave way to the greening and garden hope of spring. September lifts our spirits from the heat dome of a Southwestern summer. September reminds us there is coolness and rain showers with the turn of calendar pages. September is also a check point for the projects, dreams and hopes of the new year in January of unlimited time and opportunity.

With the traditional arrival of Labor Day our calendars began the all too quick slide to Halloween, Thanksgiving, and yes, Christmas. Pumpkin spiced lattes, creamers, and cakes fill our shops and home with the surrounding comfort of this fall tradition. As the air cools the pace of our steps, our walks increase. My mind and memory, seem sharper in the refresh of September than the draining heat of August.

Our porch, once again, becomes a gathering place of friends and neighbors. We catch-up with those not seen or heard since the limiting heat of summer. Golf courses, tennis courts, and sunscreen once again compete with pickleball and the quiet shuffle of dominoes.

What makes fall being fall for you? The months ahead can be full of events, family and friends, and perhaps travel. Beth encourages me to be curious and each week to do or try something new, different. The coming coolness, turning colors of trees, and upcoming wonderous events will add to your sense of hope, of happiness, and belonging where you are, who you are.

September Netflix Recommendations:

  • Dark Winds. Series of Northern New Mexico. Filmed in the rural New Mexico with many locals and cultural events.
  • North Of North: In many ways like Dark Winds but filmed in Northern Alaska with local characters, cultural events and language.
  • Katrina. A 3-part series of New Orleans, Katrina, the flooding, the misery of thousands, the incompetent mom-leaders, the role of one tough guy who knew right from wrong.

Your September Comment adds to the pleasure and sense of community of us all.

Roy, with quicker step and welcoming the fall.
