Roy’s Sunday Letter for September 20, 2026

Noble Truths & Sunday Life Lessons

Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Jewish practices share the common heritage of Noble Truths and Wisdom Sayings. I have been fortunate to read, listen and learn over a lifetime. I have gathered an informal backpack of truths, not Noble Truths, but representing what I have seen and believe to be helpful. I will share some of these today, in the Sunday Letter.

I want to improve my emotional and spiritual attitude. I also desire to be more consistent in practicing kindness and mindfulness in my daily living and communications. I will continue to seek wisdom from the writings and teachers of traditional faiths.

I share my informal backpack in hopes one or more will be of interest or helpful to a situation within your own family and life. Use the Comment section below to let me know what is helpful to you, and what is not.

  • President Jimmy Carter shared 5 personal truths with Amy Grant, song writer/singer. President Carter told Amy #5 was the most important word he knew and it was “WE.”
  • An American Indian teacher says to shut the door on your thoughts and worries before ending the evening. “Do not carry these with you to bed. Each will be outside your door as you wake in the morning.”
  • “You are enough, just as you are.” (more of Mr. Rogers on You Tube)
  • Wendell Berry wrote the poem “The Peace Of Wild Things.” Wendell recommended stepping outside each morning, even in Texas heat or Michigan cold, to feel the sun, maybe a light breeze, to be part of the out before the in of the day.
  • You belong, in this fast moving, rarely slowing down world. There is a right place for you.
  • We act on who and what we Value. Are your actions and Values consistent?
  • Jane Goodall, in one of her last interviews, reflected, “I was a girl, I had no money or experience. I found a way to get to Africa and look what happened when I did. Don’t give up. Find a way.”
  • Be forever curious. Keep alive your desire to learn.
  • Being alone and loneliness are not the same. In the same way Silence and Being Still can teach and guide us.
  • “Same Kind of Different as Me,” the 2017 movie, showed me the importance of knowing and being with persons and groups different than my own. Race, gender, foods, culture, music and faith broaden us, keep our spirits alive and healthy.

What sayings are important to you that you would add? If you will write in the Comments blow, we can all appreciate your truths as well.

Roy, eager to learn from each other.

May God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. ~Franciscan Benediction

“When life gives you lemons make lemonade.”
My grandmother would remind me of this when I was upset or having a worry… her name was Vera and even though she did not write it… that quote still has meaning to me today.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Navajo pray, Wake up and thank the sun each day. It dies every night and a new sun comes in every morning.

What a great idea Roy. Thank you for all the goodness.

Lest we forget the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do to you!
