Roy’s Sunday Letter for June 14, 2026
Life Notes and Sunday Letter Follow-up
Theo Of Golden has been listened to or read by millions and by many Sunday Letter readers. Allen Levi’s career as the son of a Forrester, attorney, a pause for reading and study in Scotland, a musician and song writer along with his law practice, a Probate Judge, and now in his late 60’s a writer and publisher of a successful novel. There are multiple interviews of Allen Livi easily found on You Tube. In addition, there is a one-hour concert of Levi playing and sharing the background of individual songs four years prior to publishing Theo. Levi’s sense of hope and meaning were clear when he said in a recent interview, “Even in this dark and challenging time, this world is still a pretty good place to live.”
- Last Sunday I noted my failure to play and enjoy my acoustic guitar. Just because I do not have a musical background doesn’t eet music of only twqomean I don’t have, of course, books on how to play. On Thursday, I surrounded myself with guitar, harmonica, and mountain dulcimer song books. Turning pages, song by song, I identified one song common to guitar, harmonica, and mountain dulcimer, Down in the Valley. In guitar, I found sheet music of only two chords, in harmonica, I found a numbered harmonica tab. This is a popular song in mountain dulcimer song books, again a numbered tab song. So, in one week I have progressed from not able to play one song, and now, with lots of practice ahead, to play Down in The Valley on guitar, harmonica, and mountain dulcimer. Amazing, no?
I am honored to have been asked to serve on the Alumni Board of Directors of Texas Wesleyan University. Board members represent all the graduate decades from current to my graduate year 1968. The campus is located in a struggling east Fort Worth multi-racial neighborhood of working families, community organizations and faith centers. I owe my education, allowing me to slowly mature, and along with President Kenndy sending my generation to engage and change the world. Board service gives me purpose, meaning, and an opportunity to participate in an enjoyable experience.
- Beth and I have begun a new bedtime practice. We ask each other to share one part of the day for which we are grateful. Sometimes and G7 something we witnessed or together shared. Other nights a surprise, whether small or large. Fc or we two, a good feeling way to end the day.
