Roy’s Sunday Letter for May 14, 2023
- Many, younger than 60, do not know their family history. We enter work, civic arenas and faith places like cut flowers. Knowing, listening and telling your generational stories are a vital part of developing community, the intimacy of connections and bridging over skin color, gender, and age. For me, cut flowers is not where we find community.
** Wendy’s is testing an “AI Chatbots” for drive-thru. The chatbot will be able take your order and answer questions. Wendy’s says Covid, economic changes, and staff shortages are the reasons. Wendy’s drive thru now provides 80% of all their food orders. Gear up people, the times are indeed changing.
- Seen on Face Book poster: “A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.” I will add…Never go away. Stays at the table until there is a “we” answer, be a solution dedicated person and find common ground.
** I use Mailer Lite to distribute the Sunday Letter. Their analytics report the Sunday Letter has a regular “Open & Read” rating of 76.53. I think this is a good report, and yet, not experienced enough to really know.
- What is one thing that has not changed in the past 10 years for you? Just one among all the change after change? Answer: The Floss string (teeth cleaning this week).
** I waited for Lamar Jackson to apologize. But not. In 2023 America, his new agreement to play NFL quarterback in Baltimore is $56 million for one season, $260 million for five seasons. There are schools, disease solutions, caretaking of dementia, abuse, the isolated and left behind in Baltimore. As best I could, I searched for his Foundation, his Cause…found none. These sentences are not personal to Larmar or his family. His $56 million represents the separations and the gaps we permit…even encourage.
- I had an Ophthalmology assessment this week. I had worry and apprehensions. Letters on the screen or print book not as clear, blurry (just a little). To my delight and surprise, one eye 20 – 20…the other 20 -30. I used 175 inexpensive readers. So, I will upgrade the quality of my readers and say Thank You.
** In the midst of all the noise and distractions of daily life, we have found a sense of calm in “Moving Arts,” a Netflix feature of 30 minute videos. Search to find the right image, pace of movement…whether forest, animal, or water. We watched “Forest” as a slow down before end of evening…a nice way to say goodnight.
I decided to add a short Face Book post Monday – Friday mornings. An Encouragement, words of support, perhaps a thought as morning comes to us all. Tomorrow, I will ask readers about their “Re” words…Reconnect, Recommit, Reflect, Redecide, Return….we each have our own “Re.”

delighted to be connected, always
you have to be old to do face book; you are far too young….an Instagram young one to be sure
I did not see the top line of Renew
A good, forward leaning word from a forward leaning friend
Thanks for the “Moving Arts” recommendation. Gonna look for that. Need a counter-balance to the nighttime political talk shows.
Sounds like a “Peace Out” at the end of the day.
Cheers to you and Beth!
Richard
Beth has become a regular Moving Art person as she does and prepares her art
For some reason she prefers the images and background music over NASCAR.
I hope easy and healthy days for you two and all of family.
