Roy’s Sunday Letter for February 8, 2026

Continuing To Encourage Believers to Believe

Yes, these are confusing days with news breaks, headlines and decisions that do not encourage an active life of hope or support for many. And yet, this is the very time when the strengthening of relationships and community connections is so important.

  • I am uplifted when listening to Maya Angelou’s strong voice in her “Still I Rise.” On YouTube being able to hear Louis Armstrongs recording “What a Wonderful World” brings me a sense of peace. The times were troubled and divided in America (1968) had little joy as cities burned and citizens seeking an education or to vote were beaten. Mary Olliver’s verses bring me close to the land with focus on seasons, birds, animals and individuals with whom we share the caretaking of Mother Earth. These heroes teach us, lead us into health, serve as witnesses. Add your own heroes and witnesses. We need all these and more.

I offer these notes as our week unfolds before us all. 1) The reading and response to emails seems to have slowed. The tag of “You Have Mail” does not attract our immediate attention as once before. 2) Today’s Super Bowl allow us to be distracted from the ugly and uncertain world that is our true challenge today and for the tomorrows to come. 3) Netflix’s Queer Eyes is now in its 10th and final season. Five gay guys, each with their own unique gift and talent, engage individuals and families, changing lives. 4) The Monks and Aloka, the Peace Dog, will complete their 2,300 mile ‘Walk for Peace’ and return to Fort Worth on Valentines Day. Beth and I will join thousands in the welcoming their return by witnessing their steps of faith and peace.

  • So many, both near and far, wish to continue their life of Hope and being the shining Light for others. A dear friend received a cancer diagnosis. There are also deaths, both expected and unexpected. All somehow goes in life’s mixing bowl. These are not paths to walk alone. Allow or even invite others to join you, meeting these challenges together. Not an easy way, but maybe the better way.

Roy, encouraging SL readers show Hope and be the Light

Good to hear of memory words and time for Betty.
Yes, we are all better for Betty being a part of our lives, over decades and decades.

Running late today, I took an Uber ride to Flower Mound yesterday to celebrate a high school classmates 80th birthday. I have not been that far north on 35 in
several years. There is a whole world out there that I didn’t even know existed. Years ago I did drive to Denton and there was mostly farms, land, cattle and very few houses, certainly not now. I found myself realizing that my world is relatively small. I have been in the same area for over 50 years and my world is here. I read about events going on elsewhere, some that impacts my life but many that don’t. My daughter will be in D.C. when the Monks arrive on Tuesday, I asked her if she would join the celebration and she replied, “ I will be in a board meeting, Mom” so much of life passes us by when we are too busy to celebrate it.

Beth is checking FBook for Valentine Day arrival and 6 mile walk home to E. Rosedale Templle.
Today, Sunday we followed E. Rosedale to the Templle.
Beth found Temple to talk with.
She will know after finding their route for Saturday.

Yes, on outlying areas and change and build up.
Look out cows, here comes texans and concrete.

We have friends was home and neighborhood is near to Stevenson Oaks.
National brans names, house 4 fee apart, streets narrow.
      Not our kind of “improvement.”
Camp Bowie and TCU good for we 3.

I love the words “life’s mixing bowl”. To mix must require ingredients. Thanks for reminding us of the many ingredients that life holds, both people and activities.

and, a reminder even mixing bowl can be messy
A spill over does not mean stop
      We clean, we go on
as you have shown us in an open and healthy way
